Sanibel is known for having beautiful white sandy beaches and has some of the world’s best beaches for shelling. The island is a wildlife refuge
with about 60% of the island designated as protected wildlife preserves.

The Ding Darling National Wildlife Refuge is 5,000 acres of tidal wetlands and mangroves. It is home to more than 200 species of birds, 50 species of reptiles and 32 mammals. Explore the park on a two-mile foot trail, several canoe trails, bike paths or five-mile Wildlife Drive with water on both sides.
The Bailey-Matthews Shell Museum is the only museum devoted to shells in the US. It houses more than two million specimens. You can have your own shells identified there and learn the history and formation of shells. Children can participate in the Children’s Learning Lab.
The Dunes Golf and Tennis Club is an 18 hole championship golf course nestled amid an abundant natural landscape.
The best way to get around Sanibel is biking with over 22 miles of paved trails that allow you to see the beauty of this wonderful island. From one end of the island to another and everywhere in between, biking lets you enjoy the beauty of the island at your own pace. Bike rentals can be found at
